Starting with one class in one school in 2007 4-H afterschool now has programs in 30 schools throughout Salt Lake County reaching over 2,500 students.
The 4-H afterschool program is designed to support the positive and successful development of youth through the educational philosophy of “learn by doing”. Youth are learning life, decision making and social skills and just having a great time with an adult and friends. Through lessons that provide discovery of science, cooking, personal health, nutrition and arts and crafts youth learn to listen, create and process new and old ideas and skills. They learn to work together and alone, to respect themselves and others and to effectively communicate their needs. The 4-H afterschool program can complement in-school learning and development.
Our 4-H afterschool program strives to provide youth with:
- access to high-quality afterschool programs
- a safe place to be afterschool
- opportunities to increase reading and math skills
- opportunities to expand their interests and life skills
