4-H Consumer Decision Making

 

Contest Date:  November , 2008

Location:  Sandy Library - 10100 S Petunia Way (1405E)

Time:   6:00 p.m.

Eligibility: Grades 3-12.  

Team or Individual:  Individual 

Description: In this contest, youth will judge four different classes of consumer products to demonstrate their consumer decision making skills.  Youth place each class and give oral reasons for their placing on one class.  Please Note:  We will modify this event from the State Guidelines to only allow for individual competition, rather than teams.   We will not do the “group think” portion of the contest.

 

Registration Deadline:  Thursday, November 1

 

Resources:  State Ambassador Cami Lyman prepared a Consumer Decision Making Contest CD that has LOTS of wonderful resources to help leaders prepare for this contest — including mock classes.  Her information is available at www.saltlakecounty4-H.org under “Resources.”

Awards:  Each youth receives a certificate and earns a blue, red or white ribbons based on the Danish judging system:

·          Blue (excellent): 90-100

·          Red (good): 75-89

·          White (fair): 74 and below

The 1st place Senior Division winning teams will receive a partial scholarship to compete in State 4-H Contests in July. 

Except as noted above, we follow the state guidelines for this event.

 

  • Selected contestants in grades 9-12 will be invited to represent Salt Lake County in State Consumer Decision Making Contest.   Our county team will be composed of the four highest scoring individuals in the county contest (grades 9-12).
