4-H Dairy Food Prep Contest

Date:  June 12, 2008

Location:  Extension Office

Eligibility: Grades 3-12.  Youth in K-2nd grades may participate, but not compete.

Team or Individual:  Individual or team.

Description: 

  • K-8 Grades:  Youth prepare a dish at home in which one or more dairy products is the main ingredient.  They bring the completed dish to the contest and prepare an attractive table setting.  The judges will sample their dairy entry and ask the contestants questions.  Youth must complete a Recipe Form and Nutrition Facts for Dairy Products Form.
  • 9-12 Grades:  Youth present a demonstration on the nutritional value, cooking principles, proper storage, and variety of dairy products along with the preparation of a dairy dish.  The presentation should include the preparation steps in making the dish.

Registration Deadline:  June 8, 2008

 

Next Steps:

    • County 4-H Dairy Food Prep contestants in3-8 grades are invited to compete during Northern Regional Contests on
    • Selected contestants in grades 9-12 will be invited to represent Salt Lake County in State Dairy Food Preparation competition.

Awards:  Youth in K-2nd grade receive a participation ribbon.  All other youth receive a certificate and earn a blue, red or white ribbons based on the Danish judging system:

·          Blue (excellent): 90-100

·          Red (good ): 75-89

·          White (fair): 74 and below
