4-H Ethnic Foods

Time: Workshop: 6:00 p.m.

Eligibility: Grades 3-12.  

Team or Individual:  Individual or Team

Description: Youth prepare a dish at home that reflects a specific culture and prepare an attractive table setting to display their dish.  The judges will sample their completed dish.  In addition:

 

  • Youth in 9-12 grades will give a 5-10 minute presentation about the culture the dish represents.  Youth may use visual aids to give their oral presentation.
  • Youth in 3-8 grades will participate in a question/answer session with the judges.

Registration Deadline:  Thursday, November 8

Awards:  Each youth receives a certificate and earns a blue, red or white ribbons based on the Danish judging system:

·          Blue (excellent): 90-100

·          Red (good): 75-89

·          White (fair): 74 and below

The 1st place Senior Division winner will receive a partial scholarship to compete in State 4-H Contests in July. 

We follow the state guidelines for this event.

 

  • County 4-H Ethnic Foods contestants in 3-8 grades are invited compete during Northern Regional Contests in June 2008.
  • Selected contestants in grades 9-12 will be invited to represent Salt Lake County in State 4-H Ethnic Foods Competition.
