4-H GPS Contest

Time: Workshop:  9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon

Eligibility: Grades 3-12.  

Team or Individual:  Individual

Description: In this contest youth work individually to locate coordinates, calculate area, calculate distance, and participate in an interview about GPS technology.

 ·          Leaders may check out GPS units from the County 4-H Office.  Usage fee is $2/unit ($50 security deposit) for a one-week rental.  Eight units are available.

·          We will conduct a one-hour GPS workshop at 9:30 a.m. for youth and adults who are interested in learning how to use the GPS units/or as a refresher for those with experience.  Attending the workshop is optional, but will be beneficial for all contestants. 

Next Steps:

  • Selected delegates in grades 9-12 will be invited to represent Salt Lake County in State GPS Competition.

Awards:  Each youth receives a certificate and earns a blue, red or white ribbons based on the Danish judging system:

·          Blue (excellent): 90-100

·          Red (good ): 75-89

·          White (fair): 74 and below

 The 1st place Senior Division winner will receive a partial scholarship to compete in State 4-H Contests in July.
